I've had this unit for several years. For the cost, it's a solid deal but you need to consider your circ*mstances before pulling the trigger. Mine is used in a small room - 12x10. I turn it on when the room is 89-91 around 6pm, and by 8, it's around 72. In hindsight, I would've gotten a unit with more BTU's.

I bought this exact unit a few weeks ago and it includes a set of mounting brackets and side panels.

I have had this for almost 9 years as well, it's an absolute trooper and I'm only replacing it because I installed a mini-split system. I used it in my bedroom which is 10x12 and it survived years of 100+ degree days, 104 of them, I just checked. Not only that, but it allowed me to sleep during the day when I worked nights for a few years. I need it very cold in my room to sleep so the fact that it could do that (with a fan sometimes) while it was 100°+ outside speaks volumes in my experience. The plastic shade that fills in the rest of the window will survive a few summers, tops, but it cools so well for so little money that I didn't mind finding some foam to plug up the window.
This is my first comment here despite browsing for years, but I really do think this little guy was an amazing purchase. If you need to cool a tiny room and don't mind having very few features (you have to turn it on and off manually), this will hopefully serve you as well as it did I. I have bought very few things that have impressed me as much as this little guy. Just be sure you know it will fit your needs.

Got a room that's 15 x 15, same BTU unit. Outside temp can be 100F, coldest it get in the room is 80. Definitely bareable. I have the AC cent pointed straight at my desk. It keeps me cool enough.

My bedroom is about 10x12 and these little 5,000 btu units cool it just fine (I have an older Frigidaire with digital controls and get by setting it on 78 most of the time and it still feels plenty cold, and the sun beats down my side of the apartment all day!). The key is really insulating around these units regardless of room size for maximum efficiency. I put foam board in front of the factory cheapo plastic panels and tape up around them, and put a piece of foam in the gap between the raised window and the outer window.

Jeez. I bought this for my aunt less than a week ago. She loves it. But we thought we got a good deal on Amazon at $148.99. It was considerably higher everywhere else.

\nI can't speak to the loudness but unless you live way up north i'd consider a unit with more BTUs. But for a room that size you will want to consider something better.
