The Exeter, Pennsylvania native was a three time all - state wrestler in Pennsylvania for Exeter high school. DeSanto finished fifth in the state and was a runner - up as a junior before heading into his senior year. As a senior DeSanto made the decision to wrestle the same weight as future teammate Spencer Lee who was going after his fourth Pennsylvania state title. In a vision quest like run, DeSanto defeated Lee with a late takedown to win his state title, handing Lee his first and only high school loss. DeSanto would wrestle as a true freshman for the Drexel Dragons compiling an overall record of 29-7 with a ranking as high as fourth in the nation. After his third place finish at the EIWA's DeSanto went into the NCAA championships as the seventh seed. DeSanto fell to Michigan's second seeded Stevan Micic in the quarters before falling in the round of 12 to Rutgers Scott DelVecchio to end his freshman campaign. DeSanto would transfer to Iowa for his Sophomore season, once again turning heads throughout the year with his relentless style. DeSanto was ranked as high as third in the nation at one point and compiled an overall record of 23-6. DeSanto won the Midland championship at 133 pounds and in their January dual meet upset third ranked Nick Suriano of Rutgers to move up to fourth in the nation.
